INTERNATIONAL WOMEN IN ENGINEERING DAY scholarships

ASCE LA YMF is pleased to award $1,000 in scholarships in honor of International Women in Engineering Day (INWED). Applications are due Friday, June 16th.

Submit your application as a single PDF (Last_First_INWED) to ascescholarship@gmaill.com. Winners must be present at our INWED Celebration on Sunday, June 25th.

The ASCE Los Angeles Younger Member Forum (LA YMF), in coordination with the Metropolitan Los Angeles Branch (MLAB) and Los Angeles Section is proud to award over $26,000 in scholarships to undergraduate students, graduate students, and student chapters within the civil engineering community for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Eligibility requirements, required documentation, and essay prompts along with award categories and amounts are now available for scholarships awarded by LA YMF, MLAB, and LA Section. Applications must be submitted by Friday, February 16, 2024. Winners will be notified Friday, February 23, 2024, and are expected to be in attendance to receive their award at the annual Student Night & Job Fair (SNJF) scheduled for Friday, March 1, 2024.

The Life Member Forum of the Los Angeles Section of ASCE will be awarding scholarships under a separate cycle and application. Learn more about this program below.

Individual awards

This year, our program will be implementing a Common Application for individual scholarships awarded by LA YMF, MLAB, and LA Section. Students may apply to multiple scholarships using the form, however only one form may be submitted per student. All applicants will be required to upload the following documents within the Common Application form:

*Unofficial transcripts are acceptable. Transcripts should demonstrate enrollment through the end of the 2023-2024 school year.


It is advised that applicants review the essay prompts for the scholarship(s) you intend to apply for, prior to beginning the application. Your progress on the form may not be saved. Prompts, eligibility, and application requirements are available below. Be sure to review them carefully. Ineligible and/or incomplete applications will not be scored.

The application will close Friday, February 16, 2024 at 11:59PM. Scholarship recipients will be notified on Friday, February 23, 2024 and are expected to register for and accept their award at the 
2024 Student Night & Job Fair, held on Friday, March 1, 2024.

Individual Awards

  1. Applicant must be a Student Member at the Society level of ASCE. Students join free here!  

  2. Applicant must be a full-time or part-time student for the 2023-2024 academic year. 

  3. Applicant must be a student at any accredited college or university (2-year or 4-year) within the ASCE Los Angeles Section region, which includes schools within the following counties: Inyo, Kern, Los Angeles, Mono, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura with the intent to major in Civil Engineering or a similar major.

  4. Scholarship recipients are limited to only one (1) scholarship award from ASCE LA YMF.

  5. Applicant must attend the 2024 Student Night and Job Fair to accept the award. 

  6. Only complete submissions will be considered. 

Student Chapter Award

  1. Chapter must be an active ASCE student chapter at one of the following universities: CBU, CSULA, CSUN, LMU, UCLA, USC, CSUF, CSULB, UCI, CPP, or CPSLO

  2. Only complete submissions will be considered. See application forms for requirements.

The Dr. Bill Goodin Outstanding Student Mentor Scholarship is open to both undergraduate and graduate students.

Individual Awards

  1. Applicant must be a Student Member at the Society level of ASCE and also a member of their university’s ASCE Student Chapter. Membership will be verified with Student Chapters.

  2. Undergraduate student applicants must be a full-time student for the 2023-2024 academic year. Graduate student applicants may be part-time or full-time, but must have been enrolled during the 2023-2024 academic year.

  3. Applicant must be a full time student at one of the following universities: CSULA, CSUN, LMU, UCLA, or USC.

  4. Scholarship recipients are limited to only one (1) scholarship award from ASCE MLAB.

  5. Applicants must attend the 2024 Student Night and Job Fair to accept the award. 

  6. Only complete submissions will be considered.

  7. Only complete submissions will be considered.

LA Section will award one (1) Presidential Scholarship to a selected applicant. This award is open to both undergraduate and graduate applicants. Applicants who apply for either of the LA Section Scholarships provided above (Outstanding Undergraduate Student or Outstanding Graduate Student) will be considered for this prestigious award.

     40%      Academic achievements (GPA, research experience, etc.), Growth within the Civil Engineering profession                       (ASCE involvement, leadership roles, internships, etc.), Community involvement (community service, etc.)

MLAB Individual Awards 

     45%     Essay (writing mechanics, clarity, addressing prompt statement, and passion for growth as a Civil Engineer)

     25%     Academic achievements (GPA, research experience, etc.)

     20%     Growth within the Civil Engineering profession (ASCE involvement, leadership roles, internships, etc.)

     10%     Community involvement (community service, etc.)

LA Section Individual Awards

     30%     Essay (addressing prompt statement and passion for growth as a Civil Engineer)

     30%     Growth within the Civil Engineering profession (resume showing ASCE involvement, leadership) 

     20%     Academic achievements (GPA, research experience roles, internships, etc.)

     10%     Community involvement (community service, etc.)

     10%     Professionalism (attention to detail in application materials, essay writing mechanics)

LMF Scholarships

The ASCE Los Angeles Life Member Forum (LMF) is proud to award up to $6,500 in scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students within the Los Angeles Section. Eligibility requirements, required documentation, and essay prompts are now available. Applications must be submitted by Tuesday, January 31, 2023. Winners will be notified in February 2023, and are expected to be in attendance to receive their award at the 2023 ASCE LA Section LMF Annual Induction Ceremony and Brunch scheduled for Saturday, March 11, 2023.

Please note that the LMF Scholarship Program is separate from the LA YMF, MLAB, and LA Section programs and has a unique application, deadline, and submittal format. Please be sure to read the application thoroughly and follow all directions to ensure your application is considered. eligibility requirements

  1. Any currently enrolled student in an ABET accredited program in civil engineering or related field within the Los Angeles Section.   

  2. Applicant will be registered as an undergraduate or graduate student in the fall of the year for which he/she is applying. Applicants must be a student member of the Society in good standing at the time of application and award. 

  3. The scholarships may be awarded only to those students who will employ them to continue their formal undergraduate or graduate education at a recognized educational institution. 

  4. Previous recipients of this scholarship are eligible to apply in any succeeding competition for these awards provided the other requirements of eligibility are satisfied.   

  5. Selection is based on the applicant’s justification of award, educational plan, academic performance and standing, potential for development, leadership capacity, ASCE activities, and financial need, note that your ability to follow these instructions will count in your scores. 

K-12 level scholarships

In addition to providing scholarships at the university level, ASCE LA YMF presents scholarships to middle and high school-aged students during their annual Engineers Week (E-Week). Participating schools receive essay prompts in January and winning students are notified in February of each year. ASCE is excited to award over $3,000 in scholarships to K-12 students for the 2023-2024 academic year.

LA Younger Member Forum

David is currently a Civil Engineering Associate at the City of Los Angeles, Bureau of Engineering. He graduated with his Bachelor's at Cal State Los Angeles in 2021. He joined ASCE back in his junior year of his undergrad and was involved in Concrete Canoe. His hobbies include finding new places to eat and playing video games.

Nicole Aquino - Scholarship Chair

LA Younger Member Forum

Nicole Aquino is an Assistant Engineer at Olsson and works on traffic design and analysis at highway-rail grade crossings. She graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a degree in Civil Engineering. Nicole was actively involved in CPP's ASCE and ITE student chapters and held various leadership positions. She's looking forward to continuing her involvement with ASCE by inspiring students to consider a career in engineering. In her free time, Nicole enjoys reading, finding new places to eat, and going to Disneyland.
