Planning on becoming a professional engineer, land surveyor, or geologist someday? If so, are you aware of some of the recent changes to the examinations and licensure process? Have unanswered questions regarding the changes? Don’t get caught up in the confusion! Instead, join us during this year’s first LA YMF General Meeting for a special presentation directly from representatives of the California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists (BPELSG). They will be traveling from Sacramento to explain the changes and to answer your questions about the examination and licensure process.

The cost of the event is $10 and includes dinner. Don’t miss out!

ASCE LA YMF will be volunteering at the 11th Annual LA Cash for College Event Family Night! Join LA YFM by volunteering as a career panelist (45 minute sessions) or helping out at a booth that will engage students in civil engineering activities. This is an opportunity for you to outreach to over 13,000 students and their families about the importance and marvels of Civil Engineering and what Civil Engineers have the potential to achieve. You can choose the following dates and times or attend them all.

Wednesday, October 3;  4:30 PM - 9:00 PM
Thursday, October 4;  8:30 AM - 1:00 PM

The Transporation and Development Institute (T&DI) of ASCE will be hosting the 2013 Airfield and Highway Pavements Conference to be held in Los Angeles, California, June 9-12, 2013. This conference will bring together researchers, designers, project/construction managers, and contractors from around the world to discuss the ever-changing challenges to airfield and highway pavement sustainability, design, advanced modeling, performance, evaluation and monitoring, rehabilitation, life-cycle assessment, and emerging technologies. The theme of the conference is "Sustainable and Efficient Pavements".

Spark LA is looking for Spark Mentor volunteers who are interested in changing the life of a student by mentoring through a one-on-one workplace-based apprenticeship. Spark's mission is to address the high school dropout crisis by connecting volunteer professionals with under-served youth in workplace-based apprenticeships to "spark" their potential.

Students come to your workplace to get real-world, hands-on experience in your career and explore the school-to-career connection needed to build skills critical for academic success. No experience is necessary! Spark provides free training and is there with every mentor at every step to answer questions and offer support.
